DocuAgree vs. HoneyBook: Which Should You Use?
Photographers don't actually weigh DocuAgree against HoneyBook as equals — HoneyBook is a full client-management platform (payments, questionnaires, scheduling, lead pipeline, automated workflows) with contracts as one feature among many; DocuAgree is a $4.99/month tool that does contracts and e-signature and nothing else. If you need what HoneyBook does, DocuAgree isn't a substitute for it. If contracts and signatures are genuinely all you need, HoneyBook is a lot of platform to pay for just that.
Where HoneyBook genuinely wins
- Payment collection and invoicing — the big one. HoneyBook takes client payments directly: retainers, deposits, and invoices, with built-in card processing (HoneyBook's fees section says from 2.7% + 10¢; its plan comparison table says from 2.9% + 25¢) and ACH at 1.5%. DocuAgree does not collect payment at all — if you switch and expect to invoice through it, you'll be misled. A photographer who needs to collect a deposit at booking needs this feature somewhere, and DocuAgree isn't it.
- Client questionnaires and lead forms. Built in on every tier — live lead capture forms (2 on Starter, up to unlimited on Premium) that feed straight into a client record.
- Scheduling. Client-facing booking that clients can actually book into: unlimited from the Essentials tier up, and a limited version on Starter (one session type, email reminders only).
- Lead and client management. A real pipeline view of every inquiry and project, included on every tier — this is HoneyBook's actual core, not a bolted-on feature.
- Automated workflows. Email sequences and task automation triggered by a project's status, included from Essentials up — the kind of "send the questionnaire two days after booking" automation DocuAgree has no equivalent for.

Where DocuAgree is better — for the right photographer
If contracts and signatures are genuinely all you need — because you already handle payments and scheduling another way, or you're not at the volume where a full CRM pays for itself yet — DocuAgree's case is simple: $4.99/month flat, no annual commitment, and a pause option for the off-season instead of paying through it. HoneyBook's cheapest tier alone runs $29–36/month before you've touched payments or scheduling; DocuAgree is a fraction of that for the one thing — signed contracts — every photographer needs regardless of what else they're paying for.
Who should stay on HoneyBook
Anyone already relying on HoneyBook for payment collection, client scheduling, or automated follow-up workflows should stay put — switching to DocuAgree for contracts alone means losing all of that, not gaining anything, since DocuAgree doesn't do any of it. This isn't a competitive swap; it's a different, much smaller tool for a different, much smaller job.
If you're just here for the contract
A wedding photography contract template is a comprehensive agreement between a photographer and a couple that covers coverage hours, deliverables, payment schedule, cancellation and postponement terms, and who owns the images — the single most important document a wedding photographer sends before booking a date. See the full template details → — or see DocuAgree for wedding & event photographers for the full pitch to this specific audience.
