Free Social Media Management Contract Template (PDF)
A social media management agreement is a contract between a social media manager or agency and a client. It covers which platforms are managed, how much content is produced each month, how content is approved, how account access works, who owns the accounts and content, the monthly fee, and how either side can end it.

When to use it
Use it when you take on a client to run their social media, as a freelancer or an agency, or when you hire someone to run yours. It's particularly important for account access and ownership: the client should always own its accounts, and access should go through platform roles, not shared passwords.
What's typically included
- Manager, client, and start date
- Platforms and monthly services
- What's not included
- Monthly content calendar and approval timeline
- Account access through platform roles
- Client ownership of accounts and data
- Content ownership after payment
- Monthly fee, invoicing, and late payment
- Ad spend paid separately by the client
- No guaranteed followers or sales
- Confidentiality
- Term, notice, and termination
- Signature blocks for manager and client
How to fill it in
- Put real numbers in the monthly services: how many posts, Stories, and videos, and how quickly comments and messages are answered.
- Set an approval deadline so content isn't stuck waiting. This template allows scheduled content to go out if the client doesn't respond in time.
- Keep ad spend separate from your fee and paid by the client directly to the platform, so you're never fronting the client's ad budget.
- Use each platform's business or partner access rather than passwords. It's more secure and makes ending the relationship clean.

Frequently asked questions
What should a social media management contract include?
The platforms, monthly deliverables, approval process, account access and ownership, fees, how ad spend is handled, reporting, confidentiality, and how to end it. Leaving out ownership and access is the most common and costly mistake.
Should a social media manager guarantee results?
No. Reach and followers depend on platform algorithms and other things the manager can't control. A manager can commit to the work and the reporting, not to a number of followers or sales, and this template says so.
Who owns the social media accounts?
The client should always own its accounts, followers, and data. The manager gets access through platform roles and removes it when the agreement ends.
Can this agreement be signed electronically?
Yes. Under the U.S. ESIGN Act and state UETA laws, an e-signed social media management agreement is as valid as a paper one.
